Outlined below are the three most common types of green roof. Intensive This is simply the ability to put your garden on you roof. There are some restrictions on this type of green roof but if you want grass, trees or even a vegetable patch on your roof, all this can be achieved. Intensive green roofs are by their very nature heavier and require regular maintenance and irrigation in dry periods just like your garden. Semi Intensive This combines the benefits of lower maintenance and accessibility to the green roof area. Commonly these types of green roofs will have a terraced area (either timber decking or paving slabs) with some planting that will require periodic maintenance. Extensive This is the simplest of the green roof family. These are very light weight and low maintenance and are generally not accessible to the general public. The plant types are sedum that are wind, frost and drought resistant but colorful. Extensive green roofs can be installed on existing roofs or on new buildings. Advantages of green roofs.
